04 Feb CORNWALL, United Kingdom RISING WITH DANCE!
ONE BILLION RISING is coming to Cornwall, United Kingdom (online) as part pf a global mass action to end violence against women (cisgender, transgender, and those who hold fluid identities that are subject to gender-based violence).
Join from your gardens or sitting rooms and celebrate solidarity through action, art, connection, imagination and love.
In 2020, over 2,000 dancers, group leaders, dance and community groups and the general public from across Cornwall learn the One Billion Rising – KERPOW dance choreographed by Emily Alden with music by Julie Macara. Over 250 people attended the main event in Truro and danced at this international event.
This year KERPOW are leading this event again. To join us, sign up to a workshop or just learn the dance from the video on our website and turn up. Visit the website www.kerpowcornwall.com for more details.
Dance teachers and community leaders – teach this to your group and feel free to bring your friends or have an online practice on our own.
If you’d like to dress up for the event following the garden theme, please do. You can also dance in your garden, set up a garden related background or simply dance, or be with us where you can. No previous dance experience needed!
KERPOW (Kernow *Power of Women) are a collective of female artists and producers working across dance and theatre in Corwall, United Kingdom.
“We want to celebrate women’s stories and creativity. We want to use our art to raise consciousness and inspire to act. we want women’s work to be visible and validated. We want to shout out loud and locally and globally. We want to understand the needs of women in our community. We want to create a platform to explore the issues of sex, gender and politics. We want to create a community of women that learn, listen and debate. We want to connect and support existing women’s organisations. We want to unite and empower. We want to dance in our revolution. And we want to laugh....a lot.
