V-DAY AND ONE BILLION RISING CALL TO END WAR ON GAZA

V-DAY AND ONE BILLION RISING CALL TO END WAR ON GAZA

As a movement working to END VIOLENCE against women, girls, gender expansive people and the Earth, we oppose violence committed by ANYONE.

We do not believe violence is the solution in Israel or Palestine or ANYWHERE.

For violence to end, to preserve lives, we must return to the historical roots of oppression. The violence of decades of occupation, of apartheid, of dispossession.  The violence of the denial of the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people to be free – the freedom to move, learn, dream, travel, play, thrive, hope, aspire, live. Equally, and with dignity and peace.

Like many groups and individuals around the world who believe in human rights, we are trying to make sense of what we are being called to do. How do we stay committed and strong in resisting systems of profound oppression and injustice while also creating and rising towards something different and new – where violence is not the revolving paradigm. How do we reckon with history and truth – not bury it  – while centering the humanization of all in the change we want to create. How do we contribute towards a just and lasting peace?

What we do know is that today – as bombs fall and lifelines like water, electricity, medical aid and food have been cut off in Gaza, with 1.1 million people being asked to flee but with nowhere to go because of the blockade, and thousands of civilians already displaced and killed, including and particularly women and children – we are witnessing a genocide. And we cannot be complicit.

V-Day and One Billion Rising call for an end to the war on Gaza.

We call to STOP ALL KILLINGS.

We call for an end to the complicity of governments who back this war – the US, UK, EU countries and others – and hold them to account for their damaging support. No to the weaponization of trauma.

We call for humanitarian aid into Gaza.

We call for the international media to fulfill their ethical mandate to do honest, unbiased, verified, balanced, historically contextualized reporting – without distortions.

We call for an end to the occupation.

RISE FOR FREEDOM MEANS RISING FOR PEACE, FOR A VIOLENCE-FREE WORLD FOR ALL. IT MEANS LEAVING NO ONE BEHIND.

Together with allies working on issues in the region, V-Day has compiled a list of actions/organizations you can URGENTLY support:

CEASEFIRE AND HUMANITARIAN AID FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN GAZA NOW!

For over 25 years, V-Day’s work to end violence against women, gender expansive people, and girls has been situated at the intersection of ending war, racism, colonialism, imperialism, occupation, and climate injustice.

Over our decades of work, we have stood in solidarity with women suffering the consequences of war in Bosnia, Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kosovo, Iraq, Sudan, and Haiti.

We know that war has a particularly deadly and disproportionate impact on women and children.

We believe in a feminism that liberates all people from racist, capitalist, patriarchal terror. War is a tool of patriarchal violence and doesn’t solely dehumanize women but also men.

Because our mission is to end violence against all women and girls, we are demanding immediate attention and action for women and children – and all people – suffering in Gaza today.

Here are the facts:

-7,533 women and children have been killed
-788,800 women and girls have been displaced from their homes
-2,056 women have become widows, and new heads of households, following their male partner’s death
-50,000 women in Gaza are pregnant, with 5,522 expected to deliver in the next month
-Women are being forced to have C sections without anesthesia
-Premature babies are at a serious risk of losing their lives without electricity for their incubators, some have already died
-10 women are giving birth each day without clean water or electricity
-50,000 new mothers in Gaza unable to breastfeed with ease due to dehydration and lack of drinking water

And the list goes on…

We call for an end to the bombardment of Gaza. We call for the safe return of all hostages. We call on women of the world to stand with your sisters in Gaza and demand a ceasefire and humanitarian aid now!

Since 2000, in partnership with Palestinian and Israeli women peace activists, and after numerous trips to the region, V-Day has been advocating with Palestinian women to achieve their political, social, and economic rights.
