THE NEXT PHASE KICKS OFF WITH LISTENING SESSIONS IN ESWATINI, NEW ORLEANS, SAN FRANCISCO, LOS ANGELES, MIAMI, OAKLAND, AND CSU MONTEREY BAY, WITH MORE TO COME THROUGH V-DAY PARTNERSHIPS. |
VOICES is an interdisciplinary audioplay and art piece featuring the stories of Black women across the diaspora, presented by V-Day. This art piece amplifies and celebrates the voices among us that are so often silenced. It calls on us to awaken our capacity to listen, deepen our solidarity, and cultivate a world where all people and the planet can live free from harm. |
“At a time where so many are being encouraged to speak, to voice, and tell their stories—we find it just as important if not more to listen. It is critical to facilitate art that encourages radical listening for the sake of connection, compassion, and community. This art piece is a celebration of the interior lives we embody and less about fixating on our identities or appearances. We seek to encourage and establish a culture that fosters radical truth-telling love & solidarity.” — aja monet, |
Why |
“When we listen to people, when we hear people, they become known to us. It’s much harder to hate and hurt when we hold people inside of us in the knowing and the hearing of them.” — V (formerly Eve Ensler), |
Born from over 900 submissions collected over two years, VOICES: A Sacred Sisterscape emerged through deep storytelling, collective study, and collaboration among Black women actors and musicians. |
A Sanctuary Hosting a VOICES listening session creates a sanctuary for people to embark on a powerful journey of sound and story—whether in lecture halls, art galleries, living rooms, backyards, or around kitchen tables. More than just a performance, it is a transformative act and the first step in a beautiful journey of solidarity within our collective imagination. |
