Brenda Currin
Brenda Currin is the Artistic Director of What Girls Know, a theater program for the healthy development of adolescent girls. The What Girls Know Company in New Orleans has created IN OUT BONES, an original play, in their own voices. Our partnership with Zion Trinity brings songs and rhythm of Africa adding to the distinct New Orleans flavor to IN OUR BONES. Brenda, also an actress, began her career playing the daughter in the film of In Cold Blood while still in college. She went on to act in other films: Reds, Taps, The World According to Garp, and many plays including My Sister in This House (Obie Award), Threepenny Opera directed by Richard Foreman, Museum, The Art Dining by Tina Howe, Sister Mary Ignatius Explains the Universe to You), Impossible Marriage by Beth Henley, Linda Her by Harry Kondoleon and Conviction by Eve Ensler. Brenda has mainly focused on collaborations of original pieces and adaptations: Sister and Miss Lexie and A Fire Was In My Head adapted with David Kaplan from the stories of Eudora Welty; collaborations with Martha Clarke: Vienna: Lusthaus and The Hunger Artist, and seven productions of original plays with the What Girls Know companies in NYC, Wilmington, NC, Kauai, HI, and New Orleans.
