Karel Sloane-Boekbinder
Karel Sloane-Boekbinder, Assistant Producer for the Ashé Cultural Arts Center, is a playwright, author, actor, filmmaker and painter. Karel has been a theatre professional for over 21 years. At Ashé CAC, Karel assists with stage management, all aspects of assistant producing, and, arts instruction. Additionally, Karel was a semi-finalist in the Faulkner-Wisdom Writing Competition in 2005 and 2006 and was selected as a finalist in 2007. Current performance work can be seen in the upcoming Spike Lee film "Miracle at St. Anna" (as "Herb's Wife") and the thriller by the Swider Brothers "Girls Gone Gangsta" (as "Teeth.") Her stage work includes "13 Lessons" (at the Ashé Cultural Arts Center, commissioned by the Boggs National Center for Literacy,) NOLA Playback Theatre, The Jefferson Performing Arts Society, New Orleans' DramaRama, The Cassandra Project, New England Academy of Theater, Yale Children's Theatre, The Womens International League for Peace and Freedom, The International Festival of Arts and Ideas, and Grumbling Gryphons Traveling Children's Theater. She has studied theatre at HB Studios and Simon Studios in NYC and with the late Tony Award winning playwright/director Joseph Walker. She was a winner of Maybelline's Inspiring Confidence Through Education Contest for PEOPLE Magazine winners in 2006.
