TO CELEBRATE V-DAY'S WORK TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS AT ANNUAL NYC EVENT ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8TH

New York, N.Y. - June 8, 2011 - V-Day, the global activist movement to end violence against women and girls, will host its New York City benefit, VIVA VEVOLUTION!, on Wednesday evening, June 8th, at the Urban Zen Center at Stephan Weiss studio in Greenwich Village. This year's event, the annual benefit in NYC, will feature guest speakers and attendees including Eve Ensler, Jane Fonda, Donna Karan, Isabella Rossellini, Thandie Newton, Kerry Washington, as well as international activists and V-Day supporters, all joining together to celebrate the organization's work.

On Sunday, June 12th, at this year's Tony Awards in NYC, V-day Founder/Artistic Director Eve Ensler will be honored with the 2011 Isabelle Stevenson Award which recognizes an individual from the theatre community who has made a substantial contribution of volunteered time and effort on behalf of one or more humanitarian, social service or charitable organizations. The awards ceremony will take place at the Beacon Theatre and will be broadcast live on CBS Television.

These two events illustrate the incredible impact V-Day has made throughout its 13 year history funding grassroots programs to end violence against women and girls in 140 countries primarily through performances of The Vagina Monologues, Ensler's award-winning play.

At VIVA VEVOLUTION!, V-Day's annual NYC benefit, attendees and speakers will gather to showcase the organization's revolutionary work to end violence against women and girls around the world. V-Day board members including Jane Fonda, Kerry Washington, and Thandie Newton will introduce V-Day activists and leaders from all aspects of the movement. There will be special guests, including V-Day's Congo Director, activist Christine Schuler Deschryver, who will update attendees with information on the violence women are experiencing in Congo and the massive campaign that is taking place on the ground mobilizing change and offering healing and leadership to survivors. In addition, Haitian women's leader and director of V-Day's work on the ground, Elvire Eugene, will speak about the current status of women in Haiti, the ongoing progress, the daily needs and hard won victories. V-Girl activist Coco Kimelman will give personal testimony of the impact of V-Day's newest program. Ted Bunch and Mark Matousek will speak about the burgeoning V-Men's campaign, and noted actor James Lecesne will perform an original piece taking us directly inside the male perspective on the movement to end violence against women and girls.

Hosts of the NYC benefit being held at Urban Zen Center at Stephan Weiss studio include V-Day, V-Day Founder/Artistic Director Eve Ensler, V-Day Board members Carole Black, Jennifer Buffett, Rosario Dawson, Beth Dozoretz, Jane Fonda, Donna Karan, Katherine McFate, Pat Mitchell, Thandie Newton, Linda Pope, Emily Scott Pottruck, Amy Rao, Cari Ross, Susan Celia Swan, and Kerry Washington, and Michael Balaoing, Beth Karpfinger, and David Stone.

The evening will end with a special birthday dance party celebration for Eve Ensler.

The annual fundraiser will also honor NoVo Foundation President and Co-Chair/V-Day Board Member Jennifer Buffett. Ms. Buffett will be presented with The Stone Award for her extraordinary philanthropy & vision. The Stone Award was established in 2003 in honor of David Stone for his outstanding philanthropic work on behalf of women and girls. Ms. Buffett, through her tireless work and dedication to ending violence against women and girls, exemplifies the essence of The Stone Award, and joins past recipients David Stone, Jane Fonda, Carole Black and Pat Mitchell, and Katharine McFate.
