Give To The World By Giving To V-Day

As V-Day's tenth anniversary year comes to a close, we want to take this moment to thank you for your continued support and dedication to ending violence against women and girls.

As a V-Mail recipient, you know that V-Day's model of 'empowerment philanthropy' has been a catalyst for activists, college and high school students, anti-violence organizations and vagina warriors in more than 120 countries worldwide.

This past year, together we have seen amazing victories and pushed the V-Day movement to the next level. We've just completed our Annual Report and encourage you to download it, so that you can see what you have helped to create.

The report is a guide to V-Day's monumental anniversary year, as well as the last decade of the movement. In it, you will find information on our campaigns, quotes from our organizers, images from all over the world, and ways to get involved.

In this season of gratitude and generosity you can give to the world by giving to V-Day. Your tax-deductible contribution* will enable us to empower more local networks and change the lives of women and girls worldwide. With your support, we WILL end violence against women and girls and change the story of women.

Two V-Action Steps You Can Take Before The Holidays

  • Tell Congress to help stop rape in the DRC. Speak out now and tell Congress to stand up to gender-based violence and pass the International Violence Against Women Act (IVAWA). I-VAWA (S. 2279, HR.5927), if passed, would consistently incorporate solutions for reducing violence against women into U.S. foreign assistance. Over the last ten years, V-Day members have accomplished amazing results in the fight against gender-based violence everywhere. Now we need your help to make the IVAWA a reality for women in the DRC and worldwide.

  • AIDS-Free World, an advocacy group founded by Stephen Lewis and Paula Donovan, is collecting testimonies of women who survived gang rapes by leaders in Mr. Mugabe's ZANU-PF party, after the Zimbabwean President lost the first round of presidential elections in March.

International human-rights lawyers have collected sworn affidavits from eight women, all of them supporters or organizers for the opposition Movement for Democratic Change who were raped and brutally beaten after elections this past spring.

Each of the women described how her attackers, who openly identified themselves with Mr. Mugabe's ZANU-PF party, made clear that she was to be the victim of a systematic policy of punishment because she dared to challenge Mr. Mugabe's rule.

Help bring their case to the UN. Write to Michele Montas, Ban Ki-Moon's spokesperson, at [email protected], or fax him directly at 1 (212) 963 7055. Demand that the UN follows the mandate of Resolution 1820 and speaks out or acts on behalf of the terrorized women and girls of Zimbabwe.
